My Life | My Experience | My Discovery | My Way

Singapore

Dates: 18th of Jan -> 21st of Jan 2007

To start this awesome year, and to celebrate the end of year 12, another milestone in my life, I’ve decided with parent’s support both verbally and financially to take a trip to Asia, consisting Singapore, Hongkong and China. Singapore is my first stop, which was where I was heading off to on the 18th of Jan at 9am in the morning.

The tiny Perth International Airport, when compared to changi, this is like child’s play

This is actually the first time I went to somewhere far away, or even been on a plane by myself, such an exciting feeling. Haha. Although the first few hours, or even first few days may I say, was over shadowed by the feeling of…weirdness, loneliness maybe, because, yea.

Anyway, the flight to singapore, was generally ok, the plane ride was pretty alright, except for the fact that I chose the window seat, that means there were two people between me and the “path to relief” (a.k.a toilet). I didn’t want to trouble the people, so i held it in, for about 5 hours or so, no it wasn’t pleasant…. >.<

The packed plane

Singapore, how do you describe it. In my head, I’ve always thought that Singapore was this highly technological city. With shiny everything, and a mechatronic hand to wipe your ass in every public toilet. I was wrong. Deadly wrong.

There were still people walking on the streets, there were still old buildings, and there were definitely not a single mechatronic hand, not even a human hand to wipe any part of you, gota do everything yourself, just like the good old days.

I do have to say something about Singapore tho, it’s the most clean city in Asia, and that’s an untouchable truth. The city although may look not as rich as people (I) expect it to be, it’s clean as hell (well or heaven, which ever’s cleaner). I heard there’s even a law in Singapore to wash you cars, you will be fined if your car’s dirty…(not sure about the reliability of this piece of information tho). I don’t think I saw one piece of rubbish on the ground, either that or I was just too busy looking around me than to notice the stuff on the ground. The only dirty place I saw was this open sewage on my way from the airport to the place I was staying (thanks to ray for providing the accommodation, greatly appreciate it).

The days in Singapore was mostly spent shopping (or window shopping) and eating. The food in Singapore is dirt cheap. The other products in Singapore were relatively cheap compared to Australia, but I knew I had Hongkong and China ahead of me, so I only spent $100 Aussie dollars in Singapore, dissappointing ay :P.

My first meal in Singapore

Didn’t actually do much that interesting in Singapore, except for the fact that I got shat on by a bird, in the middle of the crowd, I was told by EVERYONE that it was good luck, but seriously, I don’t see it.

I do have to recommend this food to you guys tho, it’s called “Rati Prata” (I think) and it’s indian. It’s so simple, as it’s just them pancake things dipped in curry sauce, but something so simple, taste extremely nice. Next time you go to Singapore, or India maybe, you have to try this food, nice, cheap and bloody awesome. :)

Doesn’t look as good as it taste, but you gota try it

My three days there were gone just like that, but have to say, it was a great experience. Thanks to all the people who met up with me there, and made my time there worthwhile. And thanks again to ray, for providing me a roof over my head.

Before I leave, I will warn you about something else, not only Singapore’s against dirty cars on the streets, they are also against this…

Singapore is a multi-language country, but I wonder why this was the only line in the lift that isn’t translated into Chinese.

Dissappointments:

- Didn’t get to go to Sentosa
- Didn’t visit orchard road that much, as it was raining often
- Didn’t spend that much money
- Celeste avoiding me :P
- Didn’t take the cab everywhere, but have to say, the MRT was great

Some interesting pictures taken in Singapore.

As I squeeze past, do I give you the ass or the crotch?

so they now have three seats for next to the window side

instead of the two, uh? hm…

hey, i had those damn crows shit on my three times within a 2 minute time period last year. ok, twice on me (LANDED IN MY APPLE TOO, THOSE DAMN CROWS!) and once on the ground next to me. :P

and people who tell you that it’s good luck (TREE! I’M LOOKING AT YOU!) are just trying to cover up the fact that you’re covered in bird shit. there’s nothing lucky about having another animal’s faeces on you, so stop telling us that it’s good luck! you try having a bird shit on you and then let’s see if you still think it’s lucky!

and the one thing in sg that made a great impression on ken was their transportation line. :D doesn’t take much to impress you, uh, ken? ;) (HAHAHAHA, I ACCIDENTLY TYPED ‘JEN’! freudian slip, much? :p)
